A meeting of EUROCC project partners was held in Pozna\u0144, hosted by the Pozna\u0144 Supercomputing and Networking Center (PSNC). During the two-day session, the implementation of last year’s tasks was reviewed, and a strategy for the next three years of the project was developed.<\/p>

An important point of the discussions was the role of the National Competence Centre in HPC in the Polish AI ecosystem, given the establishment of two national AI factories: Gaia AI Factory and PIAST-AI.<\/p>

Participants also planned their presence at key industry events in 2026, including the Infoshare conference. The meeting concluded with a visit to the Pozna\u0144 data center server rooms, where the current computing infrastructure was presented.<\/p>

The program has been designed for individuals beginning their work with supercomputers – participants progress from absolute basics all the way to independently running computational jobs.<\/p>

On 5\u20136 February 2026<\/strong>, Warsaw hosted the international C\u03c0C Symposium<\/strong> \u2013 an event that has, since 2010, brought together European researchers working on \u03c0-conjugated systems, quantum chemistry, functional materials, and advanced computational methods.<\/h4>

This year, the Polish research community was represented by the team from the ICM University of Warsaw<\/strong>: Joanna J\u0119draszczyk and Luiza Skrajna-Iwa\u0144czyk. The programme also featured a talk by Micha\u0142 Hermanowicz, PhD<\/strong>, titled \u201cElectronic structure at scale: Research challenges and HPC solutions.\u201d<\/em><\/p>

In his presentation, Micha\u0142 Hermanowicz outlined the key computational challenges in contemporary electronic-structure research – from modelling low-dimensional materials to analysing properties characteristic of Dirac materials. He demonstrated how access to supercomputers enables simulations and analyses that would be impossible to perform on standard computing infrastructure.<\/p>

He also highlighted the importance of initiatives such as the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking <\/strong>and EuroCC Poland<\/strong>, which provide researchers in Poland with access to high-performance computing resources, as well as expert support and training.<\/p>

We are pleased that the C\u03c0C community gathered in Warsaw and that we had the opportunity to showcase how HPC accelerates research at the intersection of physics, chemistry, and materials science<\/strong>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

FFplus Open Call 2 – T2 addresses the needs of SMEs and Start-ups proficient in generative AI and HPC for large- to extreme-scale computing resources. The strategic objective is to facilitate and strengthen the technological development of European SMEs in the area of generative AI. The participating SMEs and Start-ups will be supported in enhancing their innovation potential by leveraging new generative AI models, such as Large Language Models (LLMs), building on their existing expertise, application domain, business model and potential for expansion.<\/h4>

Who can apply to the Open Call?<\/strong>
SMEs and startups from Europe and Horizon Europe-eligible countries. Research organisations can be part of the consortium as supporting organisations to SMEs.\u00a0

The EuroCC AI Hackathon was an intensive, multi-day online event that brought together AI engineers, data scientists, and researchers from across Europe with HPC experts. This collaboration created a unique environment for experimenting, scaling, and accelerating real-world AI projects using European computing resources.<\/h4>

The Participants: The event saw active participation from 11 teams (1 focused on HPC and 10 on AI). To ensure technical excellence, the teams were supported by: 19 Mentors (9 from NVIDIA, 10 from EuroCC), 3 Cluster Administrators.<\/p>

Goals of the Initiative:<\/strong>\u00a0The primary objective was to engage AI developers and increase the visibility of the EuroCC initiative and the NCC Poland (NCKO) portfolio, including training, infrastructure, and consulting. The hackathon also aimed to educate participants on how to effectively utilize national and EuroHPC supercomputing resources.<\/p>

    Polish Success Story<\/strong>: Team SpectroDerm: The Polish AI team, SpectroDerm from the University of Silesia, focused on improving the training efficiency of Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) using the NVIDIA GH200 Grace Hopper\u2122 Superchip on the Helios supercomputer. By optimizing the training process, the team managed to reduce execution time from approximately 10 seconds per epoch to just 0.4 seconds. This represents a 25x speedup while achieving over 98% GPU core utilization.<\/p>

    In November 2025, the latest edition of the prestigious TOP500 list was published, ranking the world’s most powerful computing systems.     Helios – Leader in Poland and on Green500<\/strong>
    The Helios supercomputer, installed at Cyfronet AGH, has maintained its position as Poland’s most powerful supercomputer. Moreover, the machine secured 8th place on the Green500 list, which recognizes the world’s most energy-efficient computing systems. This is a tremendous achievement, demonstrating that Polish HPC infrastructure combines high performance with environmental responsibility.<\/p>

    On October 7\u20138, 2025, representatives of the National Competence Centre for HPC (NCKO) took part in the CyberTrust Congress, held at the Conference Center of Wroc\u0142aw University of Science and Technology.
    The event focused on current challenges in cybersecurity and aimed to bring together the academic community, public administration, and the business sector.<\/p>

    During the congress, discussions covered, among others:
    \u2666 building digital resilience in organizations,
    \u2666 implementation of the NIS2 Directive and the Polish National Cybersecurity System Act,
    \u2666 the role of artificial intelligence in data protection,
    \u2666 post-quantum cryptography (PQC) and the impact of quantum computers on the future of data security,
    \u2666 practical aspects of incident response and forensic analysis.<\/p>

    NCKO was represented by Sylwia Mech (WCSS), who presented the capabilities of the Polish High Performance Computing (HPC) infrastructure and discussed the use of supercomputers in threat analysis and cybersecurity research.
    Visitors also showed strong interest in quantum computing and its potential role in shaping the future of data protection technologies.<\/p>

    Congress participants also visited the WCSS server room, where they had the opportunity to see LEM, the 121st supercomputer on the TOP500 list, as well as the Odra5 quantum computer.<\/p>

    From September 15-19, 2025, Wroc\u0142aw became a hub for young researchers, PhD students, and quantum enthusiasts. Organized by the National Competence Centre for HPC<\/strong> together with Wroc\u0142aw University of Science and Technology<\/strong>, the very first edition of the Odra Quantum Computing Summer School<\/strong> brought an intensive program dedicated to quantum computing and its practical applications.<\/h4>

    Over the course of five days, participants had the unique opportunity to explore the fundamentals of quantum computing under the guidance of experts from around the world. The program covered: basics of quantum physics (qubit, superposition, entanglement), quantum gates and algorithms, quantum statistics, annealing techniques and error correction, compilation optimization and execution of circuits on both simulators and real devices, as well as workshops on quantum machine learning.<\/p>

    Particularly inspiring were the lectures and presentations on the latest advances in quantum hardware and software<\/strong>, delivered by experts from Wroc\u0142aw University of Science and Technology and our partners: SCCH, Hochschule Zittau\/G\u00f6rlitz, IQM, and NVIDIA<\/strong>. The highlight of the week was the quantum hackathon<\/strong>, where participants faced the challenge of generating random numbers on Poland\u2019s first superconducting qubit-based quantum computer – Odra 5<\/strong>. The competition was fierce, and the creativity of the teams demonstrated the impressive potential of the next generation of researchers. By developing skills in quantum computing we are building a foundation for innovative applications in optimization, chemical simulations, medicine, and artificial intelligence.<\/p>

    Supercomputers are often associated with science and industry, but their potential also extends to the public sector. Analyzing vast collections of documents and legal acts, supporting intelligent assistants for civil servants, planning urban development, modeling processes in healthcare, and strengthening cybersecurity are just a few examples of how HPC can effectively support public administration.<\/span><\/h4>

    The National Competence Centre in HPC (NCC) took part in the 15th anniversary edition of the Pa\u0144stwo 2.0 conference, organized by Computerworld Polska. The event brings together decision-makers and experts from public administration and the IT sector, with a focus on the digital transformation of the state – <\/span>from cybersecurity and e-services to the use of artificial intelligence.<\/span><\/p>

    At the NCC booth<\/strong>, visitors were welcomed by Tomasz <\/span>Fr<\/span>\u00fcboes<\/span> from the National Centre for Nuclear Research and Sebastian Sitkiewicz from the Wroc<\/span>\u0142aw Centre for Networking and Supercomputing. Both engaged with participants, answering questions and introducing the fundamentals of HPC technology.<\/span><\/p>

    What did we showcase? <\/span><\/strong>During the event, we presented the offer of Polish supercomputing <\/span>centres<\/span> and training programs, demonstrated a live view of a computing server (blade), and discussed the digital transformation needs of ministries, regional and municipal offices. <\/span>The conference also featured a presentation by Arkadiusz \u0106wiek from the National Centre for Nuclear Research, titled \u201cAI – <\/span>my assistant or a threat to my job?\u201d. The talk showcased practical examples of how artificial intelligence is already being applied in daily work – from cybersecurity and IT to advanced image analysis.<\/span><\/p>

    Last week, we took part in the Economic Forum in Karpacz – the largest economic event in Central and Eastern Europe, which brought together representatives from science, business, public administration, and the media.<\/h4>

    For three days, we promoted Polish supercomputers and the services of the National Competence Centre in HPC. At our booth, we welcomed a broad range of participants, including representatives of public institutions, startups, major technology companies, and academia. There were many questions about the competitiveness of our services, training, and consulting – confirming that awareness of Poland\u2019s HPC infrastructure is growing rapidly.<\/p>

    Our organization was represented by Sylwia Mech (WCSS) and Patrycja D\u0105browska-Wierzbicka (AGH Cyfronet), who engaged at our booth in discussions with Forum participants, as well as Marek Magry\u015b, Acting Director of AGH Cyfronet, and Mateusz Tykierko (WCSS). We were also honored by a visit from Rafa\u0142 Duczmal – Chair of the Governing Board of EuroHPC JU, the organization co-funding Europe\u2019s HPC centers.<\/p>

    The Economic Forum in Karpacz proved to be an excellent opportunity to showcase our work to a broader audience – for many attendees, it was the first chance to learn about our offering. Numerous conversations led to declarations of further cooperation and confirmed that our presence at the Forum was the right decision.<\/p>

    In mid-June, we visited Primary School No. 301 in Warsaw, specifically class 4d. Our representatives from the National Centre for Nuclear Research (NCBJ) in \u015awierk – Tomasz Fruboes and Micha\u0142 explained to the students how supercomputers work and talked about their applications in modern science and technology.<\/h4>

    The students learned, among other things:
    \u2666 what supercomputers are,
    \u2666 how they are structured \u2014 including how many computing nodes they can contain,
    \u2666 how important the quality of connections between them is.<\/p>

    The lesson also covered ways to speed up calculations, the importance of efficient algorithm decoding, and methods for increasing the density of the computational grid in the modelled area, which is crucial in scientific simulations.<\/p>

    Next, the students were introduced to the basics of rendering and computer animation creation, which are used, among other things, in film production and scientific visualizations.<\/p>

    The workshop was designed to be an inspiring lesson on modern technologies, showing how fascinating the world of advanced computing can be.     On June 4\u20135, 2025, Warsaw hosted one of the largest technology events in Europe dedicated to women \u2013 the Perspektywy Women in Tech Summit. This year\u2019s edition once again impressed with its scale, number of participants, and range of topics.<\/h4>

    It was inspiring to see how many women \u2013 students, experts, enthusiasts, and industry leaders \u2013 form an active community in the STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics). Women made up the clear majority of attendees.<\/p>

    Booth highlights:<\/strong>
    \u2666 We spoke with hundreds of participants \u2013 many of whom were encountering the topic of supercomputers and High Performance Computing (HPC) for the very first time. There was strong interest in how to access HPC resources in Poland and whether this technology has practical applications in science, business, and technology.
    \u2666 Our booth successfully attracted attention. Informational materials were quickly picked up, and a mini-HPC model built on Raspberry Pi (in collaboration with ICM UW) sparked curiosity and conversations about \u201clarge-scale\u201d computing.
    \u2666 We focused on explaining, educating, and inspiring \u2013 showing that HPC is not only for scientists, but also a powerful tool for innovation in industry, medicine, climate, energy, and artificial intelligence.
    \u2666 Awareness of the benefits and opportunities offered by computing infrastructure is still limited \u2013 especially among people at the beginning of their careers. That\u2019s why events like this play a crucial educational and motivational role.<\/p>

    On June 10, 2025, during the ISC High Performance conference in Hamburg, the latest edition of the prestigious TOP500 and Green500 rankings<\/strong> was announced. These lists present the 500 most powerful and energy-efficient supercomputers worldwide. Once again, Polish HPC systems<\/strong> have made it to both rankings \u2013 all of them installed within the network of our The National HPC Competence Centre<\/strong>.<\/h4>

    Global leaders in supercomputing<\/strong><\/p>

    \ud83c\uddfa\ud83c\uddf8 El Capitan<\/strong> (Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, USA) remains the fastest supercomputer in the world<\/strong>.
    \ud83c\udde9\ud83c\uddea JUPITER<\/strong> (Germany) is the first European exascale system<\/strong> and the fastest supercomputer in the EU<\/strong>. Its JEDI module also topped the Green500 list<\/strong>, becoming the most energy-efficient system in the world<\/strong>.
    \ud83c\uddeb\ud83c\uddee LUMI<\/strong> (Finland) and \ud83c\uddee\ud83c\uddf9 LEONARDO<\/strong> (Italy) continue to hold their places in the global top 10<\/strong>.<\/p>

    \ud83c\uddf5\ud83c\uddf1 Polish supercomputers in the world\u2019s elite<\/strong><\/p>

    The latest TOP500 edition includes seven supercomputers from Poland<\/strong>. The highest-ranked is Helios GPU<\/strong>, operated by ACK Cyfronet AGH<\/strong>, which took 85th place globally<\/strong>. It is currently the most powerful supercomputer in Poland<\/strong>, built on the modern HPE Cray EX platform<\/strong> and powered by NVIDIA Grace Hopper<\/strong> chips. Other Polish systems featured in the ranking include supercomputers operated by PCSS (Pozna\u0144)<\/strong>, WCSS (Wroc\u0142aw)<\/strong>, and CI TASK (Gda\u0144sk)<\/strong> \u2013 further confirming the strong position of the Polish HPC community in Central and Eastern Europe. Importantly, all these systems also appear in the Green500 ranking<\/strong>, which assesses energy efficiency. Helios GPU<\/strong> achieved an impressive 8th place worldwide<\/strong> in this category.<\/p>

    Polish supercomputers not only match global leaders in computing power but also meet high standards of sustainability<\/strong>. All of them are part of the PLGrid infrastructure<\/strong> and are available to researchers, public institutions, and businesses<\/strong>, supporting research, innovation, and development across various sectors of the economy.<\/p>

    On 22\u201323 May 2025, representatives of The National HPC Competence Centre <\/strong>took part in the Infoshare<\/strong> conference in Gda\u0144sk \u2013 one of the largest technology events in Central and Eastern Europe, bringing together IT professionals, innovative companies, start-ups, investors and public-sector organisations.<\/p>

    We debuted at the event with our own information booth<\/strong>, showcasing Poland\u2019s computing infrastructure and NCKO\u2019s activities under the EuroCC 2<\/strong> project. Our goal was to raise awareness of national HPC resources and to promote the services offered by Polish supercomputing centres.<\/p>

    Visitors to the booth could meet Marta Maj<\/strong> and Patrycja D\u0105browska-Wierzbicka<\/strong> from ACK Cyfronet AGH, and Sylwia Mech<\/strong> from the Wroc\u0142aw Centre for Networking and Supercomputing. Numerous discussions confirmed the growing interest in large-scale computing and the need to highlight national and European alternatives to commercial cloud providers.<\/p>

    A further highlight was a talk by Marek Magry\u015b<\/strong>, Acting Director of ACK Cyfronet AGH, entitled \u201cPolish Supercomputers \u2013 Powering the Development of Artificial Intelligence.\u201d<\/strong> The session drew a full house and sparked extensive questions afterward.<\/p>

    On May 6\u20137, 2025, a meeting of the partners of the EuroCC project \u2013 the Polish National HPC Competence Centre <\/strong>\u2013 took place in Gda\u0144sk. The event was hosted by CI TASK at Gda\u0144sk University of Technology<\/strong>, one of the project partners.<\/h4>

    The meeting brought together representatives from all institutions involved in the implementation of the EuroCC project. The agenda included both current operational topics and sessions designed to inspire the development of team competencies.<\/p>

    On the first day, participants had the opportunity to learn about the CAISE project<\/strong> \u2013 a cloud-based platform for developing universal intelligent services across various application domains \u2013 presented by Prof. Bogdan Wiszniewski<\/strong> from Gda\u0144sk University of Technology. This was followed by a talk by Pawe\u0142 Czarnul, PhD<\/strong>, also from Gda\u0144sk Tech, focusing on energy optimization in HPC and cloud computing.<\/p>

    The day concluded with a workshop titled \u201cCommunication in Projects\u201d<\/strong>, led by Dr Beata Krawczyk-Bry\u0142ka<\/strong> from CI Gda\u0144sk. The session offered participants valuable insights into effective communication in complex projects and provided space for informal knowledge exchange.<\/p>

    On the second day, current activities under the EuroCC2 project<\/strong> were discussed, followed by a guided tour of the CI TASK infrastructure<\/strong>, giving participants a closer look at the centre\u2019s computing resources.<\/p>

    The meeting served as a valuable opportunity to directly exchange knowledge, experiences, and best practices among project partners.<\/p>

    Interview: Working in the World of HPC<\/strong><\/h3>

    How did your journey with supercomputers begin?<\/strong><\/p>

    My first contact with a supercomputer came right after high school. I was interested in quantum and computational chemistry, and for a small research project I had to run my first quantum-chemical calculations on a WCSS supercomputer.<\/p><\/blockquote>

    What do you find most fascinating about working with HPC?<\/strong><\/p>

    The ability to tackle complex computational problems and run advanced simulations that would be impossible on a regular PC. HPC also offers great potential for massive parallelization and automation.<\/p><\/blockquote>

    What is your role at the National Competence Centre in HPC (NCKO)?<\/strong><\/p>

    I promote research results and project outcomes, and I provide user support.<\/p><\/blockquote>

    The EuroHPC Summit 2025<\/strong>, held from 18\u201320 March at the ICE Krak\u00f3w Congress Centre, was one of the most significant tech events in Europe this year.<\/h4>

    This edition stood out not only for its prestigious agenda but also for its exceptional setting\u2014the impressive spaces of ICE Krak\u00f3w Congress Centre provided the perfect backdrop for conversations about the future of supercomputing, artificial intelligence, and quantum technologies in Europe.<\/p>

    The event drew over 1,000 attendees on the very first day, with the plenary and breakout rooms packed throughout the summit. Excellent organization, a warm and collaborative atmosphere\u2014and over 700 Gr\u00f3jec apples, which unexpectedly became the unofficial symbol of the coffee break\u2014won praise from participants from across Europe (and beyond).<\/p>

    Among the most inspiring moments of the EuroHPC Summit 2025 were:

    \u2013 a panel on attracting diverse talents to HPC<\/strong>, encouraging participation not just from STEM backgrounds but also the humanities,

    Beyond the high-quality content, one of the event\u2019s greatest strengths was its ability to communicate complex topics in ways that were both engaging for experts and accessible to newcomers.     On April 9th, 2025, representatives of the Polish EuroCC consortium took part in the Data & AI Warsaw Tech Summit 2025<\/strong>, one of the country\u2019s leading events focused on data, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies. The National HPC Competence Centre was represented at the event by Marta Maj (ACK Cyfronet AGH) and Joanna J\u0119draszczyk (ICM, University of Warsaw).<\/h4>

    Our booth attracted strong interest throughout the day. Visitors were especially drawn to a live demo of parallelized mathematical computations running on a Raspberry Pi \u2013 a small device that made a big impact. The event provided a great opportunity to raise awareness of the HPC ecosystem in Poland and to engage in direct conversations about its potential.<\/p>

    On Saturday, April 5th, 2025, representatives of the The<\/strong> National HPC Competence Centre <\/strong>took part in Warsaw IT Days<\/strong> \u2014 one of the largest and most influential tech events in Poland. We proudly hosted our own booth, aiming to raise awareness about High Performance Computing (HPC)<\/strong> and its real-world applications.<\/p>

    Over the course of the day, we handed out more than 450 leaflets<\/strong>, using each interaction as an opportunity to talk directly with attendees \u2014 whether one-on-one or in small groups. We explained the basics of HPC using a physical server on display to show how computing clusters are built for maximum performance.<\/p>

    A major highlight of the booth was a demonstration cluster made of 8 Raspberry Pi devices<\/strong>, assembled especially for the event. With its blinking lights and compact structure, it drew plenty of attention and sparked curiosity among visitors, who stopped by to learn how it works.<\/p>

    We also showcased educational video content<\/strong>, which helped tell the story of HPC and the EUROCC initiative in an engaging and accessible way. Thanks to a strong team effort, our booth saw high engagement and left us with a sense of accomplishment and great energy.<\/p>

    We\u2019d like to thank everyone who visited us, asked questions, and showed interest in supercomputing.<\/p>

    N-Ways to GPU Programming Bootcamp<\/strong>

    Explore four different GPU programming models in just one and a half days. The N-Ways to GPU Programming Bootcamp covers the basics of GPU programming and provides an overview of different methods for porting scientific applications to GPUs using NVIDIA CUDA, OpenACC and OpenMP offloading, and standard languages (C\/C++ and Fortran).<\/p>

    Throughout the bootcamp, attendees with teaching assistants on hand will explore multiple GPU programming models, learn how to analyze GPU-enabled applications using NVIDIA Nsight Systems, and participate in hands-on activities to apply these learned skills to real-world problems.<\/p>

    The lectures will be given by Paul Graham from NVIDIA and teaching assistants from the organizing NCCs will help you with the hands-on labs done on one of their supercomputers.<\/p>

    The bootcamp is open to all coming from institutions in EU and\/or EuroHPC JU countries and welcomes participants from\u00a0academia,\u00a0industry, and public administration.<\/p>
